"The Horse in Motion" (or "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop") is the work of a life of inventor and photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

Actually this work tries to respond to a simple question: does a horse keeps all its legs off the ground when running? Muybridge was set to find that out.

In the 19th century, before motion pictures became the phenomenon we got to know in the next century, Muybridge pioneered capturing movement. And for that he both develop artistic view and engineering advances both in photographic camera construction and film development.
