Blog > IT Aphorisms - Truth is no barrier

December 11, 2024

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Another quote by Mark Twain. Why not?

I could not trace back the origin of this quote, but let's join the overwhelming majority of Internet articles that attribute it to Mark Twain.

From an IT perspective this aphorism merges two earlier ones from this blog.

This one:

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

And this one:

Markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.

In IT a good story may be a good presentation, a good email reply or a good proof of concept. Any artifact whose utility cannot be questioned without some mental effort.

To make it work simply bring the good parts to the front; and delay explaining criticism. Long enough so all players involved find more difficult to convince others of the problems than simply accept the limitations. Again a mix of two -false- arguments: ad populum and ad antiquitatem.

What's not to love about fallacies?
